As our facility programming continues to grow and serve the community so does the need for financial support from numerous sources. The foundation grants, charitable gifts and private donations we receive along with the corporate advertising programs we offer contribute directly to supporting the facility’s operating budget and the many programs and initiatives that we administer all year. Please review the various ways that you or your organization can support our ongoing efforts to keep Family Ice and our programs moving forward for many years to come.

We are always looking for support to assist us in many different ways:

Corporate Advertising & Sponsorship

Family Ice Center is the only community based ice arena in Northern New England that is open to the general public on a year round basis. This means that unlike other sports and recreation media promotion offerings your advertising dollars at our facility will reach a wide range and diverse group of people throughout our community all year long. In addition to supporting the arena programs we offer our patrons will know that your business is part of our community service team that keeps our facility moving forward and in the forefront of offering the highest quality community based recreational programming possible.

Annual Fund Donation Program

While a major portion of sponsorship funding comes from larger foundations and corporate sources local families and philanthropic minded individuals may also contribute to support our efforts through an ongoing Annual Fund Donation Program. The facility accepts donations in kind of any amount and all contributions go directly to supporting our operating expenses and outreach programming. Regular patrons and donors will receive a copy of Ice Chips, a semi-annual newsletter, updating you on the latest arena programs, special events and capital improvement projects we are undertaking. As you consider this year’s charitable giving in your life we hope you will consider supporting our company’s mission this year. For more information about Annual Fund donations at Family Ice Center please contact Luane Howard – Business Operations Manager.

Foundation Grants

In addition to our regular ice arena programming and skating associations the Family Ice Center is most proud of our skating based, community outreach program – Opportunity Skate. This program has been the cornerstone of our business model since the year 2000 and presently offers over 200 hours of ice time and facility access to its core constituents. The program offers ice time, equipment and instruction to individuals and groups who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate in ice skating activities as a sport or recreational pastime. This unique program breaks down all the barriers and supports the physically & mentally handicapped, financially challenged, senior citizen groups and many teen at risk support programs.

Capital Improvements and Energy Savings Initiatives

As our facility quickly approaches its 10th Anniversary in 2009 we are already making short and long term plans to maintain, upgrade and improve on the general facility conditions and arena operating systems. The arena operates year round and is open for general business 19 hours per day. This amount of traffic in the arena and common areas requires the need for constant and ongoing maintenance programs. From general housekeeping functions, interior/ exterior painting, electrical and HVAC contractor services we are always in need of donor support to maintain our present standard of operation and make improvements to our facility that will enhance spectator comfort and offer convenience to our skaters.

Over the past several years the facility has expanded the heated spectator viewing area, created additional seating for spectators and upgraded locker room shower amenities and capacities. Looking forward we will replace the facility rubber flooring, upgrade our concession area equipment and replace components of the ice surface dasher board system.

On the arena operation systems and equipment side of the business we strive to maintain safe, functional operating systems and reliable maintenance equipment. We recently purchased a new Olympia ice resurface machine and continue to maintain a second machine to ensure our users receive uninterrupted ice maintenance services. We spend thousands of dollars annually to maintain the arena refrigeration plant and existing operating systems. All of these systems are critical to keeping the arena running safely and efficiently year round.

Lastly, our Green Committee is creating long term plans and goals to reduce energy consumption and operate in an environmentally friendly manner. Utility costs continue to rise and Family Ice is committed to investing in equipment and technology that will help keep our operating costs down and whenever possible not pass these costs on to our customers. Current projects under consideration are a fluorescent lighting system upgrade, low-energy dehumidification system switch over and the installation of a low-E ceiling. All of these initiatives require significant financial investments but have the ability to reduce the arena utility expenses by tens of thousands of dollars. This will not only assist us in being good stewards toward our environment but will allow us to achieve financial success in an energy challenged business climate.

All of these initiatives will require significant capital investment support in several forms. Please consider assisting our arena with one of the projects outlined above and help us continue to make a difference in our community.
