As our facility quickly approaches its 10th Anniversary in 2009 we are already making short and long term plans to maintain, upgrade and improve on the general facility conditions and arena operating systems. The arena operates year round and is open for general business 19 hours per day. This amount of traffic in the arena and common areas requires the need for constant and ongoing maintenance programs. From general housekeeping functions, interior/ exterior painting, electrical and HVAC contractor services we are always in need of donor support to maintain our present standard of operation and make improvements to our facility that will enhance spectator comfort and offer convenience to our skaters.
Over the past several years the facility has expanded the heated spectator viewing area, created additional seating for spectators and upgraded locker room shower amenities and capacities. Looking forward we will replace the facility rubber flooring, upgrade our concession area equipment and replace components of the ice surface dasher board system.
On the arena operation systems and equipment side of the business we strive to maintain safe, functional operating systems and reliable maintenance equipment. We recently purchased a new Olympia ice resurface machine and continue to maintain a second machine to ensure our users receive uninterrupted ice maintenance services. We spend thousands of dollars annually to maintain the arena refrigeration plant and existing operating systems. All of these systems are critical to keeping the arena running safely and efficiently year round.
Lastly, our Green Committee is creating long term plans and goals to reduce energy consumption and operate in an environmentally friendly manner. Utility costs continue to rise and Family Ice is committed to investing in equipment and technology that will help keep our operating costs down and whenever possible not pass these costs on to our customers. Current projects under consideration are a fluorescent lighting system upgrade, low-energy dehumidification system switch over and the installation of a low-E ceiling. All of these initiatives require significant financial investments but have the ability to reduce the arena utility expenses by tens of thousands of dollars. This will not only assist us in being good stewards toward our environment but will allow us to achieve financial success in an energy challenged business climate.
All of these initiatives will require significant capital investment support in several forms. Please consider assisting our arena with one of the projects outlined above and help us continue to make a difference in our community.
