Local Speedskaters Bring Home Medals From Canada Event
Congratulations to Griffin Ashey and Pete Stauber for their recent medal winning performances at the St. Croix Blades Speedskating Competition in St. Andrews, NB, Canada. The 13 year old duo brought home gold and bronze medals respectively in their division and competed in distance races ranging from 300m to 1000m. Both train at Family Ice Center and skate under the Great Atlantic Speed Skating banner.

The GASSC team is coached by local speed skating coach Karen Schilling and former Canadian National team coach Sue Ellis.

FIC Hosts 10th Annual Spring Figure Skating Extravaganza
FIC hosted the 10th Annual Spring Figure Skating Show on April 12th & 13th, 2008. The show theme this year is "Celebration" and featured over 90 of the club's recreational and competative skaters - including 2008 USFS National Novice Dance Team Golf Medal Champions Chloe Wolf and Rhys Ainsworth & bronze medalists Andrew Korda and Una Donegan.

2008 USFS National Championship silver medalist Ross Miner will perform at the Satuday night 5pm show & 2008 USFS National Junior Ladies bronze medalist Brittany Rizzo will perform at the Sunday 2pm matinee show.

To celebrate the show's 10th anniversary - National, World & Olympic Medalist, Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto tanithandben.com also performed in the Sunday 2pm matinee.

FIC Hosts Men's U.S. & Sweden National Hockey Teams
As part of their tournament preparation for the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships FIC recently hosted the 2008 U.S. & Sweden Men's National Hockey Team training camp.

In addition to the twice daily team practice sessions that were open to the public a "SKATE WITH TEAM USA" event was hosted on Saturday, April 24th. Over 200 local hockey fans were able to skate with the team, take pictures and interact with the players. All event proceeds were donated to the Family Ice Center "Opportunity Skate" Community Outreach skating program. The Team USA & Sweden coaching staff also hosted a Coaching Seminar attended by over 60 local area hockey coaches.

Local FIC Skaters Win Gold At USFS National Championships
Local competative figure skaters Chloe Wolf and Rhys Ainsworth won the gold medal in the novice dance division at the 2008 USFS National Figure Skating Championships in St. Paul, Minnesotta. Wolf (Falmouth, Maine) and Ainsworth (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) have been dance partners for seven years and train daily with coaches at the Family Ice Center, The Skating Club of Boston and with coaches at the University of Deleware.

Congratulations to the team on their victory over the best competition in the country.

10th Annual Dudley Cup Celebration at Family Ice Center
Since 1999 the local hockey community has gathered at FIC on New Years Day to celebrate the life and generous gifts of Harold H. Dudley.

Mr. Dudley's inital gift of land and financial support of Opportunity Skate was instrumental in the overall success the arena has achieved today.

The local hockey crowd braved a huge snow storm to join us this New Years Day 2008 as we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the traditional Falmouth-Greely hockey game and paid tribute to the the generousity of the Dudley family suppport at FIC. The battle for the Dudley Cup was a closely contested game & an exciting evening of hockey and community friendship.


Maine High School Hockey Invitational Christmas Tournament
Family Ice is pleased to announce the return of the Maine High School Hockey Invitational Tournament. High School, Junior & Prep School teams from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachussetts & Canada will compete on December 26-29, 2007 to showcase their talents in this highly competative event. Family Ice Hosts the 2nd Annual JDRF "Skate For A Cure" Benefit Hockey Game
The Family Ice Center hosted the 2nd Annual Juvenile Diabeties Research Foundation "Skate For A Cure" Hockey All Star Challenge Game on October 20th, 2007. The game featured a team of North Yarmouth Acadamy seniors, hockey alumni & ex-professional players against a contigent of local collegiate alumni from numerous colleges in the Maine, New Hampshire and Massachussets area. This years event raised just over $3,000 for the foundation. The public was invited to participate in the FAMILY SKATING session from 5-7pm just prior to the game and all public skating ticket sales were donated to the cause.

Family Ice Hosts the 2nd Annual "TRY SPEED SKATING" Day
The Great Atlantic Speed Skating Club hosted the 2nd Annual TRY SPEED SKATING DAY on Saturday, September 22nd from 4pm-6pm. Certified coaches were on hand to teach skaters of all abiltiy levels the basic strides used in the sport of speed skating.

FIC To Host The 9th Annual Spring Figure Skating Show
The Family Ice Center and the North Atlantic Figure Skating Club recently hosted the 9th Annual Spring Figure Skating show "Steppin' Out". Shows dates were June 1st & 2nd at each evening.

In addition to the clubs regular skating ensemble several very talented special guest skaters performed this year.

Ashley Wagner of Alexandria, VA was our lead headliner this year. She placed third in the 2007 US and World Junior Championships and is a 2006 Junior World Grand Prix finalist.

Local talent included the national competative dance team of Chloe Wolf (Falmouth) and Rhys Ainsworth (Cape Elizabeth). This team recently finished 7th in the US National Championships in the novice competative dance division.

Also performing was Dane Carter, a US Junior silver medalist and 2006 National Championship qualifier.

The event was enjoyed by all spectators and this year's charity fundraising efforts were a huge success. Charitable corporate sponsor Capt'n Eli's Soda generously donated product to support the fundraising efforts for the "NEW LUNGS FOR GEORGE" foundation.


Killer Kaminski Summer Hockey Camp Returns to FIC
The summer skating season is almost here and Family Ice will once again host a full compliment of hockey and skating camps. Former NHL and Portland Pirate Calder Cup champion Kevin "Killer" Kaminski will return with his coaching staff for a 7th year of his summer hockey acadamy at FIC.

The Family Ice Center hosted the 2007 NE District Girls Hockey All Star Select Festival. The festival is organized by the Maine Amateur Hockey Association and USA Hockey. Rousseau Hockey Clinics Return to Family Ice
The Rousseau Hockey Clinics completed their seventh season of teaching our local hockey players the basic & advanced skills of the game. Guy, Gary and Scott Rousseau along with their experienced teaching staff offer a full compliment of spring & summer adult and youth hockey clinics that focus on all the basic and advanced skills of the game of hockey.

FIC To Host The Maine High School Hockey All-Star Games
The high school state championhips are over but you can still catch some more hockey action at FIC. The Maine High School Hockey Class A All-Star game will be played on Saturday, March 17th at 7:20pm and the Class B All-Stars will play on Sunday, March 18th at 4:40pm.

The top senior players from throughout the state will have one last opportunity to compete and showcase their skills.


The 3rd Annual Skate Out ALS Skate-a-thon Is Coming to FIC
Family Ice Center and the North Atlantic Figure Skating Club hosted the 3rd annual skate-a-thonto raise fund for the The ALS Association - New England Chapter. The event was held on Sunday, March 18th from 2pm-4:30pm and was started as a tribute to one of our long time figure skating supporters who passed away several years ago from this disease. Check back soon for this a grand total of our fundraising efforts.


2007 Prudential Northeast Sled Hockey Tournament
Boston has the traditional Beanpot Championship but Maine also has a championship that has acquired a tradition of it's own. Family Ice Center hosted the 2007 Prudential Northeast Sled Hockey League Lobster Pot Tournament on March 25th & 26th. The best teams from Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylavania and Connecticut competed over two days for the Lobster Pot Championship. Each team roster has several national level players and there will be several team members from the USA Olympic gold medal team that competed Nagano, Japan.

The 2007 Lobster Pot champions are the Pennsylvania Centre-Pedes.

The team luncheon and tournament reception was sponsored by Prudential Financial and featured a lobster meal for all team members, invited guests of Prudential and select members of the media.

High School Hockey at Family Ice
Family Ice is the home arena for the Falmouth Yachtsman & Greely Rangers HS boys & girls hockey teams and Maine HS Hockey Invitational Tournament. The arena hosts over 60 HS games per season featuring teams from the Southern/ Central Maine area and from twelve different states and Canada.

The 2007-2008 High School Hockey Season is now coming to a close but FIC still offers one more chance to watch some of the top talent in the state showcase their skills.

Presenting the 6th Annual Outdoor Holiday Skating Extravaganza
Family Ice & the North Atlantic Figure Skating Club hosted the 6th Annual Outdoor Holiday Skating Show "Sparkle On Ice" on Saturday, December 15th at 4:30pm on Lee Twombly Pond. Special guest skaters, local competative skaters and all of the clubs youth skaters performed skating routines to your favorite holiday music while welcoming Santa via Zamboni and officially starting the holiday season by lighting the holiday trees. As an added bonus to patrons all pond skating from 11am-3pm was offered FREE to the public - hot drinks and food were offered and mother nature gave us a perfect outdoor skating day.
